(1) Download this file if all you want is the VASL.mod file, extract VASL.mod from the zipfile download. You can place this file in a directory of your choice, then run it with your existing copy of VASSAL.

(2) Download this file if you want VASL & VASSAL, extract & run the jarfile from the zipfile download. It'll install VASL to the directory you specify, then it'll automatically go out on the web to grab the bits of VASSAL that it needs. When it's done, you'll need to find and run the 'VASL.jnlp' file that it's just created. At that point, it'll create a desktop shortcut (if your Java is setup to do that), else you can manually create a shortcut to 'VASL.jnlp'. Rename the shortcut as 'VASL 5.8.2'.

(3) Download the VASSAL 3.1.15 (or later) installer from http://sourceforge.net/projects/vassalengine/files/, choose the appropriate version for your computer's OS. After running the VASSAL installer, extract 'VASL.mod' from VASLv59.zip to a new dir. Start VASSAL 3.1.15, and use it open this version of VASL.

Note that VASL 5.8 versions will not run under VASSAL 3.1, and VASL 5.9 will not run under VASSAL 3.0. However, log and save files created in one version can be opened under the other, and FtF gameplay can also occur between users running different versions.

Note that VASL 5.10 versions will not run under VASSAL 3.1.x. If you save a module, game, or log in VASSAL 3.2, you will NOT be able to open it afterwards with VASSAL 3.1. We recommend keeping a backup copy of any pre-3.2 files you plan to modify in 3.2 until you've verified that everything works to your satisfaction.
