Mid-morning on January 3rd, found them under attack by elements of the 26th SS-Panzergrenadier Regiment of the 12th SS-Panzer Division. The grenadiers, accompanied by tanks and captured American halftracks, were actually passing the woods on an angle, intent on driving toward Bastogne. They overran two or three listening posts positioned on the open snowy ground in front of the tree line, but were forced to pivot toward E Company’s position when a torrent of bullets pelted them from the right flank. . .
