(1) Download this file if all you want is the VASL.mod file, extract VASL.mod from the zipfile download.
(2) Download this file if you want VASL & VASSAL, extract & run the jarfile from the zipfile download. It'll install VASL to the directory you specify, then go out on the web to grab the bits of VASSAL that it needs.
Note that VASL 5.8 versions will not run under VASSAL 3.1, and VASL 5.9 will not run under VASSAL 3.0.
However, log and save files created in one version can be opened under the other, and FtF gameplay can also occur between users running different versions.
