We've got a great issue of Banzai!! coming to you. Robert Delwood takes us on a case study of using smoke and flame to your advantage. Zeb Doyle gives us a rundown of platoon movement. Dan Preston makes another appearance with a couple of inciteful articles; one on crews, and the other with a listing of some scenarios to help fill in those times when your gameday ends just a little too early. I provide a rundown of the 2010 Texas Team Tournament coming up the end of June. Make plans to attend! We are pleased to have JR VanMechelen give us some good pointers on the proper way to set up caves. George Bates gives us a glance at the project he worked on over the summer, and we wrap it all up with a rundown of the Intensive Fire Tournament held in England by Texas' own representative there, Eric Gerstenberg. All that and a few tips thrown in for good measure. Hopefully you'll enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed pulling it all together for you. We will have a main tournament of five rounds during those three days, as well as a mini-tournament of three rounds for up to eight players on Saturday and Sunday. Doors open at 11 AM Friday. Opening ceremony is at 12:30 PM. First round starts at 1 PM. Last round ends Sunday, no later than 4 PM. The winner of the main tournament is determined by points. The mini-tournament is a single elimination tournament. Pre-register to save a few dollars, or to guarantee a place in the three round mini-tournament, or to order your souvenir T-shirt, glass beer stein or dice glass. We provide plaques for the winner of the mini-tournament and for the top three players in the five round tournament. We are holding this event at the Embassy Suites Hotel, which is located within walking distance of some of Ottawa's tourist attractions. For any non-Canadians who might not know, Ottawa is the capital city of Canada. Many national museums are located in Ottawa and the city has a large, pedestrian-friendly, tourist area. The War museum, with its collection of AFV, will be of interest to many ASL players. This is a great opportunity to combine an ASL tournament with a vacation. The hotel has a restaurant, a sauna and a fitness center. The hotel's web page is "www.embassyhotelottawa.com". Remember that the Texas Team Tourament is an OPEN tournament. Play what you want with whomever you want, and as much as you want. There are already some folks gearing to play some BRT and I know of at least one playing of Bloody Red Beach that is going to be going on. So come and dive into something that you might not get the chance to otherwise. We've heard from the hotel that the last day to receive the reduced room rate is June 10th, just 3 months from today. We've got room blocks set up for King sized and double bed rooms, so if you have a preference, get those reservations in early. Details around the Thursday minis are also firming up. One of the minis on Thursday features the recent Critical Hit release of Berlin II - Tyrant's Lair. Critical Hit is going to be sponsoring an all day playing of the 11.5 turn scenario "Breaking Berlin" out of this pack. This promises the be a big, bloody affair with Russian forces featuring 56 squads, 5 armor leaders, 6 IS- 2s in addition to other AFVs, flamethrower tanks, Guns, OBA, and the Germans defending with 41 squads, SS, Tigers, armor leaders, Psks galore, wire, roadblocks, OBA, to name just some of each sides' OB, all fought on a beautiful Charlie Kibler (RB fame) designed HASL map. This promises to be quite an experience with plenty of action for both sides. Plans now are to have 4 folks participate in the playing all day Thursday, and if there is enough interest we'll set up a second game of 4. And just like last year, at the end of the day, one of the four participants will walk away with the game courtesy of Critical Hit. The other mini on Thursday will be featuring Ferocity Fest. For those that like their PTO brutal and deadly, don't miss this opportunity to get in on the fun. We will be featuring BFP58 San Manuel Melee out of Bounding Fire's Blood and Jungle for the scenario this year. Remember in Ferocity Fest you are competing against your fellow Allied or Axis players for the most points awarded for various actions and activities over the course of the scenario. We award prizes to the highest point total for each side. This scenario features plenty of squads and armor for both sides, Guns, Set DCs, flamethrowers, armor leaders, everything that makes PTO great, as the Americans attempt to wrest San Manuel from the Japanese. It should be a blast. We are still working on the details for the ASLSK mini for Saturday. More details will coming on that shortly. If you are into SK, make sure to come not only on Saturday, but for the whole tourney. Phil Draper won the tournament, beating Sam Prior in the final round. The VoTG scenario "The FirstBid" featured Shaun Carter and Ulric Schwela as the Germans, against Neil Brunger and Mike Standbridge's Russians. About 13 of the 19 turns where finished by Sunday afternoon, with a draw being declared at that point. 34 people attended, with me and Paul Case being the first to arrive (12.15pm Wednesday) and the last to leave (9.45am Monday). One notable attendee was Neil Stevens, who unfortunately left Saturday morning to head to Murrayfield to watch the rugby. A good time was had by all, except maybe those who lost! Next year's HEROES is booked in for the weekend 10-13 March. Expect more details in the next issue of VFTT. We've got some great mini action lined up for the tourney. On Thursday we have a playing of "Breaking Berlin" from CH's Berlin II - Tyrant's Lair. The first 4 folks who let me know they want in on this one will reserve their spot. And if there is enough interest we'll line up a second game of 4. So get in touch with me and I will make sure you have all of the documentation you need to prep and be ready to hit the ground running first thing on June 24th. Same holds true for our other Thursday mini which is Ferocity Fest. Yes this Houston institution is making its way to Austin this year. For those who enjoy their PTO, this is always a great time. On Saturday, we'll be holding an SK mini tournament. If you are interested in playing in this, let me know. This will give me some lead time to determine how I need to structure the mini. We're also working on an idea for conducting an ASL teaching session on Thursday night on a topic (or two) of the game. For those new or inexperience in the game, here's your chance. We'll cover material, present examples and answer questions to help you ellivate your game. The first dice hit the cup 3 months from today, so it's never too late to start planning to be here. Whether we're 1st or 2nd, we promise a great time. So come join us in Austin. Has the Gamesquad forum gone down? I can't access it. Is anyone else having the same trouble? Thanks. _______________________________________________ Aslml mailing list Aslml at lists.aslml.net http://lists.aslml.net/listinfo.cgi/aslml-aslml.net To unsubscribe, visit the above website, or email webmaster at aslml.net From ed at well.com Mon Mar 29 01:02:48 2010 From: ed at well.com (Edward S. Beyond Valor, 3rd Edition, unpunched and unplayed. Yanks, unpunched and unplayed, though a little wear on the box from being stored. All three are on eBay, starting at just One pound! ASL Rulebook Beyond Valor Yanks Thanks, Ed From aslbunker at yahoo.com Wed Mar 31 05:21:39 2010 From: aslbunker at yahoo.com (Vic Provost) Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2010 05:21:39 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Aslml] Dispatch #30 minor SSR numbering problem Message-ID: <958462.19137.qm@web113312.mail.gq1.yahoo.com> Hi guys, Vic from Dispatches from the Bunker here. We found a minor glitch with MGA Station's SSR numbering, the SSRs themselves are fine but when we combined SSRs just before sending the Master to the printer we forgot to change the SSR numbers. So SSR 4 is actually SSR 3 and SSR 5 is actually SSR 4. Sorry about the confusion, otherwise Issue #30 looks fine, our bad, Vic.
